13 Inspirational Quotes by Muhammad Ali

In my experience as a mental health counselor, I have discovered that people seem to learn much better by following real people than they do by trying to adhere to abstract concepts or ideas. Those of you that have worked with me before know that I have a few favorite famous figures whom I believe perfectly exemplify the motto my clients and I live by, never give up, and I reference their teachings regularly. We recently lost Muhammad Ali, one of my all-time favorites. In his honor, I’m dedicating this week’s blog to his life and his great teachings.

Muhammad Ali

Even if you are not immediately familiar with Muhammad Ali, you have probably heard his name. You have probably heard some of his quotes, too, even if you did not know they were his. He was one of the most celebrated and most famous athletes of his time. He was an Olympic and professional boxer, and won the title of heavyweight champion multiple times. His is also known for his strong political and spiritual beliefs.

Muhammad Ali Quotes

Muhammad Ali faced and overcame countless struggles and setbacks throughout his career, but the tenacity with which he fought for his goals and dreams always saw him through. He represents never giving up better than almost anyone, and I use him and his teachings frequently in my online counseling sessions. His quotes are displayed throughout my office. In order for you to get a better idea of his beliefs and his motivation, I have included some of my favorite Muhammad Ali quotes here:

Don’t count the days; make the days count.

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact – it’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration – it’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

If my mind can conceive it and my heart can believe it, then I can achieve it.

‘I am the greatest.’ I said that even before I knew I was. I figured that if I said it enough, I would convince the world that I really was the greatest.

It is the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. Once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.

Friendship is not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.

Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.

Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.

A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.

I know where I’m going and I know the truth, and I don’t have to be what you want me to be. I’m free to be what I want.

Never Give Up!

You can always count on life to be unpredictable. It is not a matter of if you will be faced with challenges, but when. The key is to not let yourself back down in the face of these challenges. As a virtual psychotherapist, I have dedicated my career to helping my clients overcome the obstacles in their lives so they can lead happy, fulfilling lives. If you are struggling to overcome something – big or small – I would be more than happy to help you develop strategies for overcoming the obstacles in your path.
